A/Prof Jakob Begun MD PhD is the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Group leader at the Mater Hospital and Research Institute. He is an associate professor at the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine. He runs a basic and translational laboratory investigating the intersection of innate immune function, genetics, and the microbiome. His clinical research focusses on the role of intestinal ultrasound in IBD, comparative effectiveness of therapies, and management of strictures. He is the past-chair of the Australia New Zealand IBD Consortium (ANZIBDC) and a founding member of the Gastrointestinal Intestinal Ultrasound Network (GENIUS).
