Dr. Alex Leow is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and an Honorary Consultant at the University of Malaya Medical Centre. He previously served as Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, University of Malaya, where he was actively involved in clinical service development, teaching, and research.
He served as Secretary-General of the Organising Committee for Asia Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) 2021. Dr. Leow is a certified trainer with both the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) Group and the Gastroenterology Network of Intestinal Ultrasound (GENIUS), and sits on the IBUS Collaboration Committee. He also currently sits on the Educational Committee and the Intestinal Ultrasound Taskforce of the Asian Organization for Crohn's & Colitis (AOCC).
Dr. Leow is a founding member of the ASEAN Education Network in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (AEN-IBD) and leads the Intestinal Ultrasound (IUS) Academy under AEN-IBD. He also serves as Secretary-General of the Malaysian Society for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (MYIBD) and is a member of the Asian EUS Group. In addition, he served on the Executive Committee of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from 2017 to 2023 and resumed this role from 2025 to the present.
His clinical and academic interests encompass diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), Helicobacter pylori–related disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and the integration of intestinal ultrasound as a point-of-care tool in IBD management. Dr. Leow has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is a regular invited speaker at national, regional, and international scientific meetings.
