Dr. Haruhiro Inoue, MD, PhD, FASGE, FJGES, is a world-renowned surgeon and endoscopist, and Full Professor at Showa Medical University School of Medicine, where he chairs the Digestive Disease Center at Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital, Tokyo. He is Emeritus President of the Japanese Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES), having served as President from 2019 to 2021.

For four decades, Dr. Inoue has pioneered minimally invasive treatments for the esophagus and stomach, combining therapeutic endoscopy with minimally invasive surgery. He developed Cap-EMR in 1993 and, in 2008, performed the world's first clinical case of per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) — a procedure his team has since used to treat more than 4,000 achalasia patients, and which is now the standard first-line treatment for the condition.

With a combined publication impact factor exceeding 500, Dr. Inoue is an Honorary Member of ASGE and the German Society of Radiology and Digestive Endoscopy, and has received numerous honors, including the SAGES George Berci Lifetime Achievement Award (2022).
