Dr. Kohei Takizawa is Director of the Department of Gastroenterology at Kanagawa Cancer Center, Yokohama, Japan, and a Visiting Professor at Sapporo Medical University. He specializes in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of upper gastrointestinal neoplasms, particularly gastric, esophageal, and duodenal cancers, with a special focus on endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).
He completed gastroenterology training at the National Cancer Center Hospital, served at Shizuoka Cancer Center for 14 years, and conducted postdoctoral research in developmental endoscopy at Mayo Clinic, USA.
Dr. Takizawa has contributed to several Japanese clinical practice guidelines, including those for ESD and endoscopic diagnosis of early gastric cancer. As the study coordinator of the JCOG1009/1010 trial, he played a key role in establishing expanded indications for ESD in undifferentiated-type early gastric cancer. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (FASGE) and a Fellow of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (FJGES). He is also actively involved in endoscopy education and training programs throughout Asia.
