Dr. Terashima, MD, PhD, FACS, currently serves as a Senior Advisor at the Shizuoka Cancer Center. Shizuoka Cancer Center is the 3rd leading hospital in terms of the number of gastric cancer surgery in Japan. Currently, about 50 open surgery, 50 laparoscopic surgery and 100 robotic surgeries are performed annually. He served as a chairman of Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) Stomach Cancer Study Group and conducted many pivotal trials as a principal investigator.
He can perform any kind of gastric cancer surgery from extended lymph node dissection to minimally invasive surgery using the Da Vinci Surgical System. To date, he has performed more than 400 robotic gastrectomy. Dr. Terashima served as the chair of the of 91st Annual Meeting of Japan Gastric Cancer Association in 2019. He also dedicates himself to translational research including molecular profiling of human gastric cancer. He has published more than 330 papers to date.
