Professor Chao-Long Chen, MD, PhD (Hon.), is a pioneer liver transplant surgeon who performed the first successful liver transplantation in Asia in 1984 and by 2026, has accomplished 2600 more. He performed the first living donor liver transplantation in Taiwan in 1994 and the first split liver transplantation in Asia in 1997.



He is a recipient of the International Liver Transplantation Society Distinguished Service Award (2019) and Living Legend Award of the Asian-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (2025) and is among the World's Top 2% Scientists (1960-) published by Stanford University in six consecutive years since 2020. He published over 600 SCI-indexed articles and trained more than 400 international fellows and observers.



He was elected as Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2007 and as President of the International Living Donor Liver Transplantation Group in 2020-21. He remains director of one of the leading global centers in LDLT.
