Professor Francis Chan, SBS, JP, is a world-renowned clinician scientist in Gastroenterology, currently serving as the Choh-Ming Li Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics and the Director of the Centre for Gut Microbiota Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). With over 1000 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 115, he revolutionized the management of aspirin-induced gastrointestinal bleeding worldwide and currently focuses his research on the clinical applications of gut microbiota. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Professor Chan has received numerous accolades, including the International Leadership Award from the American College of Gastroenterology (2018), the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (2024), elected as a Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea (2024) and awarded the Best Innopreneur Award at the FHKI X OCBC Hong Kong Innopreneur Awards 2025.

In addition to his extensive experience in teaching, research, and clinical practice, he is also an outstanding entrepreneur. Professor Chan is the Co-director of the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC), Asia’s pioneering hub for microbiota innovation, and the Co-founder of the biotechnology spinoffs, GenieBiome and MicroSigX. Professor Chan is dedicated to translating microbiome research into clinical solutions, with a mission to bring health and hope to future generations. Notably, he holds numerous patents related to microbiome innovation, including an early-detection tool for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
