Prof. Ming-Lung Yu

Prof. Ming-Lung Yu, MD, PhD, is President of Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) and Chair Professor at its College of Medicine, as well as Adjunct Chair Professor at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), where he previously served as Dean of the College of Medicine and Senior Vice President (2022–2024). A board-certified internist and gastroenterologist, his research focuses on the epidemiology and natural history of viral hepatitis, resulting in more than 600 published articles. He has held numerous senior leadership roles at KMU and its affiliated hospitals, including Senior Vice President, Superintendent of Kaohsiung Municipal Ta-Tung Hospital, and Vice President of Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, and was a Visiting Professor at the Liver Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Prof. Yu serves on the editorial boards of several major journals, including as Distinguished Reviewer for JAMA Internal Medicine and Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology and the World Journal of Gastroenterology, and advises Taiwan's Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee and national hepatitis policy bodies. In recognition of his contributions to hepatitis C research, he has been named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide (2021–2024) and a leading global expert in Hepacivirus research. His accolades include the APASL Powell-Sarin Achievement Award, the JGHF Emerging Leader Lectureship (2016), Taiwan's Wang Ming-Ning Award (2019), the TASL Exceptional Contribution Award (2022), the Tien-Te Lee Biomedical Award (2024), and the Ministry of Education's 69th Academic Award (2025).
