Dr. Amit Maydeo is Chairman of the Baldota Institute of Digestive Sciences (BIDS) at Global Hospital, Mumbai, and a pioneering figure in interventional endoscopy in India. He is Past President of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (SGEI), Emeritus Professor of Surgery at KEM Hospital, Mumbai (MUHS), and serves as Co-Editor of Endoscopy International Open and International Editor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE).

 

His research focuses on interventional ERCP and third space endoscopy, with original contributions to the endotherapy of chronic pancreatitis, GI bleeding, and difficult bile duct stones. In 2012, he became the first in India to introduce the POEM, STER, and ARMS procedures, and he has since helped pioneer the country's first bariatric endoscopy program. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers and contributed chapters to seven textbooks on GI endoscopy, and has received GIE's Outstanding Reviewer Award for five consecutive years.

 

A dedicated educator, Dr. Maydeo has served as visiting faculty at more than 150 endoscopy workshops worldwide and has personally conducted 21 international live endoscopy workshops in Mumbai over the past 25 years. He founded the Endoscopy Gurukul, a training institute for young endoscopists from India and abroad. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India for his contributions to medicine and gastroenterology, and he has also been recognized at the World Cup of Endoscopy, both as a winner and later as a jury member.
