Dr. George K.K. Lau is a leading international authority in hepatology, renowned for his research on viral hepatitis and liver disease. He obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Hong Kong in 1987 and went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the same institution in 2001. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians, the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and London, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.


Dr. Lau currently serves as Principal Investigator at the Humanity and Health Clinical Trial Center and Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Humanity and Health Medical Group in Hong Kong, alongside his role as Honorary Professor and Senior Consultant at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai. He sits on the Steering Committee of the Asian-Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) and the Governance Board of the Asian-Pacific Digestive Disease Federation, and is a Non-Executive Board Director of JD Health International Inc.


Over a career spanning more than three decades — including two decades at Queen Mary Hospital, The University of Hong Kong — Dr. Lau has built an exceptional research record, with over 300 publications, more than 55,000 citations, and an H-index of 109. He is a first or corresponding author of landmark studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology, and has contributed to 21 international clinical practice guidelines in gastroenterology and hepatology, shaping the global standard of care for viral hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver failure.
