Dr. Govind K Makharia is presently a Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. He is also an Associate Dean (Research) at AIIMS. He has published 413 articles in the indexed journals, 43 chapters for different books and edited a handbook on celiac disease. The h-index of his publications is 69 (22,300 citations). He has been listed consistently amongst top 2% research scientist globally. He has developed many global, Asian and Indian practice guidelines for various gastrointestinal diseases.

As an educator, he has trained 120 fellows in gastroenterology and 10 PhD students. He has also initiated and nurtured many education programs namely, Young Clinician Program, Evidence-based Gastroenterology, Gastroenterology Young Masters, Train the Trainers and Masterclasses.

He plays leadership roles in both global and local professional organizations including Indian Council of Medical Research, World Gastroenterology Organization, Asian Pacific Committee on Celiac Disease, and International Societies for Studies on Celiac Disease. He has been the Secretary General and President of Indian Society of Gastroenterology. He is the member of the many National Academic and Scientific Committees of many institutions. He has received many awards and delivered many orations. He is a fellow of INSA and National Academy of Medical Sciences.
