Dr. Karen Sophia Calixto-Mercado is a Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Specialist who completed her Residency Training in Pediatrics at the Makati Medical Center in the Philippines. She did Fellowship Training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Starship Children’s Hospital and the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit of the Auckland University Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand followed by further clinical and research fellowship at the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Division of the UP College of Medicine-Philippine General Hospital.
Currently, she is an Active Consultant of the Makati Medical Center & The Medical City (Ortigas) and Chair of the Hepatology Subsection at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. She also is an Adjunct Professor at the Ateneo School of Medicine & Public Health.
Her membership in subspecialty societies has her serving as the Chair of the Committee on Gastrointestinal Disease of the Philippine Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, a Member of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Subcommittee (PIBD) of the Asia Pacific Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (APSPGHAN), and a member of the Asian Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (PIBD) Registry Working Group of the APSPGHAN. Her name appears on peer-reviewed research on PIBD and pediatric LT, as well as APSPGHAN position statements on PIBD.
