Professor Diana Alcantara-Payawal, MD, DTMH, FACP, FPCP, FPSG, is a distinguished Filipino gastroenterologist, hepatologist, educator, researcher, and healthcare leader. She chairs the Department of Internal Medicine at Fatima University Medical Center and the Committee on Hepatology at Cardinal Santos Medical Center. She made history as the first woman President of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver and founded Women in Hepatology–Asia. She has also led the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Society of Gastroenterology, and Hepatology Society of the Philippines.


Her credentials include healthcare leadership training at Harvard Medical School, Hepatology and Interventional sonology fellowship training at the University of Tokyo, and tropical medicine training at Mahidol University. She has contributed to major Asia-Pacific clinical guidelines and more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. Her achievements have earned numerous national and international awards and honorary fellowships across Asia. She currently chairs the World Congress of Internal Medicine–Manila 2028.
