Prof. Dr. Necati Örmeci is a Turkish gastroenterologist and hepatologist who graduated from Ankara University Medical Faculty in 1976, later specializing in Internal Medicine (1980) and Gastroenterology (1985), and becoming a full professor of Gastroenterology in 1994. As a Monbusho Scholarship recipient, he studied early diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancer in Japan for over a year and later trained as a visiting professor at the Cleveland Clinic of Florida.

 

His clinical and research interests include portal hypertension, viral hepatitis (B, D, and C), early gastrointestinal cancers, and hydatid disease, with around 180 published papers and contributions to 21 book chapters. He currently serves as Vice-President of Istanbul Health and Technology University and as President of the Hepato-Gastroenterology Foundation.

 

Prof. Örmeci is Past President of the Turkish Gastroenterology Association, a Steering Committee member of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), and a permanent, honorary member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
