Professor Tan-To Cheung is Co-Chief of the Division of Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery and Liver Transplantation, Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital, at the University of Hong Kong, where he holds the Anthony and Anne Cheung Professorship in Innovative and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Widely recognized as a pioneer of laparoscopic liver hepatectomy in Hong Kong, his research on liver, biliary, and pancreatic disease has placed him among the top 1% of HKU researchers worldwide by citations (Clarivate, since 2021) and the top 2% of scientists globally (Stanford, 2023), with over 310 peer-reviewed publications.

 

He serves as President of the Hong Kong Society of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery (2022–2024) and Vice President of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (2022–2025) and is a founding Advisory Board member of the International Laparoscopic Liver Society. He has chaired several major regional consensus meetings on liver cancer management, and his honors include the GB Ong and James IV Travelling Fellowship Awards.
